Gaggia Classic Pro (E24): descaling and group care
Brass-boiler care for the Classic Pro: descaling with Gaggia's decalcifier, gasket and screen checks, and steam wand upkeep.
The Classic Pro's solid brass boiler and group head give it commercial-grade thermal stability — and they reward basic discipline.
Descaling
Gaggia sells its own decalcifier and prompts its use prominently ("Time to descale? Do it right with Gaggia Decalcifier" is how their store puts it). Descaling frequency depends on your water hardness: with hard tap water you will descale far more often than with filtered or bottled water. Always follow the dilution and procedure in the manual and flush thoroughly afterward — descaler left in a brass boiler taints espresso.
Group care
- The 58 mm portafilter and baskets rinse after every session; soak periodically to clear oil buildup.
- The group gasket hardens with age. A slow drip from the portafilter lock-up point is the classic symptom — replace the gasket rather than overtightening.
- Pull the shower screen and clean behind it when you notice uneven sprays or a dirty pour.
Steam wand
The commercial-style two-hole tip makes tight microfoam — wipe and purge it after every milk drink. The wand rotates for a reason: use the range of motion and don't let milk sit in the tip.
