Encore vs Encore ESP: what the espresso version actually changes
$50 separates the standard Encore from the ESP. The difference is the adjustment system, the burr mount, and the accessories — verified against Baratza's pages.

Baratza sells two Encores: the standard Encore ($149.95) and the Encore ESP ($199.95). Same chassis, same 40-setting range concept, very different espresso intent.
The verified differences
- Adjustment system: the standard Encore uses a plastic adjustment mechanism; the ESP gets a metal dual-range system — settings #1–20 are a high-resolution espresso range, #21–40 cover filter, press, and cold brew. On the standard Encore, espresso sits at the very bottom of one continuous range with less resolution per click.
- Burr access: the ESP's M2 conical burr is quick-release for cleaning and maintenance.
- Accessories: the ESP includes a dosing cup that fits 54 mm portafilters (with a 58 mm adapter) — the standard Encore grounds into its bin.
- Shims: the ESP includes shims so you can relocate the fine range if your roast runs outside it.
What stays the same
Both are hopper-fed (the Single Dose Hopper is sold separately for either), both grind from cold-brew coarse toward espresso fine, and both carry Baratza's parts-and-repair support.
Practical read
- No espresso machine, or press/pour-over only: the standard Encore is the better spend.
- Any real espresso work: the ESP's metal adjustment range and dosing cup are exactly what you'll use daily; $50 is the cheapest meaningful espresso upgrade in Baratza's catalog.
- Mostly espresso, bigger budget: skip both and look at the Sette family or Vario+.
All differences above are from Baratza's own product pages, checked 2026-09-21. Owner-review patterns about burr holder wear on conical Baratza grinders are covered with manufacturer guidance in our burr holder care guide.
