De'Longhi Dedica care: descaling, the alarm, and daily routine

What De'Longhi itself documents about keeping a Dedica healthy — the descaling alarm, official how-to videos, and the small daily habits.

De'Longhi publishes an official how-to video series for the Dedica EC680/EC685, and the product page documents the machine's own maintenance prompts. This guide reports that documentation.

The machine's own prompts

  • Descaling alarm: the Dedica tells you when it needs descaling. De'Longhi's official video walks the full descale cycle — follow it with De'Longhi's descaler and the machine's alarm schedule, not a fixed calendar guess.
  • Auto stand-by: shuts off 20 minutes after the last brew — an energy feature that also protects the thermoblock from dry idling.

The documented routine

  1. Daily: empty and rinse the drip tray (it has a water-level indicator) and wipe the steam spout — De'Longhi has a dedicated video for spout cleaning.
  2. Milk drinks: purge the wand before and after frothing; the Dedica's wand is manually adjustable, so remove and wash any frother attachments per the manual.
  3. Descaling: when the alarm fires, use the official descaling video's procedure. Thermoblock machines must never be descaled with unapproved acids.
  4. Water: the Dedica accepts an optional De'Longhi water filter — soft, filtered tank water stretches descale intervals.
  5. ESE pods: if you alternate pods and grounds, clear the filter holder between uses (the official videos cover both modes).

Where De'Longhi's videos live

Setup, first use, tank filling, espresso with grounds or pods, milk foam, hot water, programming quantities, standby adjustment, and a boiler cool-down procedure are all covered in the official De'Longhi How-To series — linked from the product page.
