The Breville home espresso line explained: Bambino Plus to Dual Boiler

A selection-criteria walkthrough of Breville's US espresso range using only manufacturer-documented specs.

Breville's US line spans four machines currently documented in this archive. This guide states the selection criteria and why each belongs; all figures from Breville's own pages, checked 2026-09-22.

The line at a glance

| | Bambino Plus | Barista Express | Barista Pro | Dual Boiler | |---|---|---|---|---| | Grinder included | No | Yes (16 settings) | Yes (30 settings) | No | | Boiler | Single, ThermoJet class | Thermocoil | ThermoJet, 3-sec | Dual stainless, PID + heated group head | | Milk | Automatic texturing (Bambino Plus feature) | Manual | Manual | Manual, dual pumps allow simultaneous steam | | Portafilter | 54 mm | 54 mm | 54 mm | 58 mm commercial | | US price (checked) | See record | $699.95 | $849.95 | $1,599.95 |

Selection criteria, plainly

  1. Do you already own a grinder? If no, the Express and Pro are the complete-purchase options; the Bambino Plus and Dual Boiler both assume a separate grinder.
  2. Do you want automatic milk texturing? In this line, only the Bambino Plus automates microfoam; every other machine here is a manual wand.
  3. Do you brew and steam simultaneously? Only the Dual Boiler — with its dedicated steam boiler and dual pumps — is built for parallel milk and espresso work.
  4. 54 mm vs 58 mm matters if you plan to share accessories with prosumer machines, or you want Breville's own 58 mm Naked Portafilter; otherwise Breville's 54 mm ecosystem (baskets, Razor, dosing funnel) covers the family.

Why each model belongs here

  • Bambino Plus — the compact, automatic-milk entry point for small counters.
  • Barista Express — the classic all-in-one with an analog pressure gauge for visual feedback.
  • Barista Pro — the Express's faster, finer-adjusted sibling with an LCD.
  • Dual Boiler — Breville's prosumer-format machine: dual boilers, 58 mm, shot clock, gauge.

Breville also sells the Oracle Dual Boiler (BES995) and Dynamic Duo bundle (BEP920) above this range — documented on breville.com, candidates for future archive pages. No hands-on testing is claimed; prices verified 2026-09-22 with the caveats on each record.
