Every current Baratza grinder compared on verified manufacturer data — burrs, adjustments, dosing, and who each one is actually for.
Checked against: Baratza.com product pages · Last verified: 2026-09-21
Baratza designs its grinders in Seattle around a simple promise: repairability. Every model below is documented by the manufacturer with a ~10-year design life, spare parts, and support. Here is the verified lineup, checked 2026-09-21.
The family tree
- Encore ($149.95) — 40 mm conical, 40 settings, hopper-fed. The filter/drip/press workhorse.
- Encore ESP ($199.95) — the espresso Encore: metal dual-range adjustment (#1–20 high-resolution espresso), quick-release M2 burr, dosing cup for 54/58 mm portafilters.
- Virtuoso+ ($249.95) — M2 conical burr milled in Europe, 0.1 s digital timer, barista lights; the step-up all-rounder.
- Sette 30 ($299.95) / Sette 270 ($399.95) / Sette 270Wi ($599.95) — the fast, low-retention direct-to-portafilter espresso family: 30 macro steps → 270 macro+micro settings → 270 + built-in 0.1 g scale.
- Vario+ ($529.95) / Vario W+ ($599.95) — compact 54 mm flat burrs, 22 micro-adjustments per macro; W+ doses by weight.
- Forté AP ($849.95) / Forté BG ($899.95) — the heavy-duty platform: AP all-purpose with flat ceramic burrs, BG brew-focused steel flat burrs at 1950 RPM.
How to choose
- Mostly filter/drip/press: Encore, Virtuoso+.
- Espresso on a budget: Encore ESP, then Sette 30.
- Serious espresso workflow: Sette 270 (timed dosing) or 270Wi (weight-based dosing).
- Flat-burr espresso + filter in a small footprint: Vario+ or Vario W+.
- One heavy-duty machine for everything: Forté AP.
One honest caveat
Several Baratza models (Vario+, Forté) carried a 20% promotion at the manufacturer store on our check date, and the Forté BG was out of stock — always confirm current configuration and price at the merchant. See each equipment page for the recorded price and check date.
