Baratza Encore: cleaning, burr inspection, and replacement parts

The Encore is designed to be maintained, not replaced: routine burr cleaning, when to replace burrs, and Baratza's parts philosophy.

Baratza states the Encore's components are designed to last "around 10 years of home use" — and crucially, that "if they don't? We've got the parts and knowhow to fix any issue." This grinder is built for repair, and its manual covers user-level maintenance.

Routine cleaning

  • Unplug first, then remove the hopper and outer burr per the instruction manual.
  • Brush both burrs and the grind chamber — never wash burrs in water.
  • Clean the grounds bin and hopper with a dry or barely damp cloth.
  • A soft brush plus the manual's disassembly steps handle coffee-oil buildup; deep clean a few times a year.

Burr wear

40 mm conical burrs dull slowly. Symptoms: more fines, inconsistent shots or cups at your usual setting, and needing a finer setting over months. Replacement burrs are available through Baratza's parts channels — replacing them per the manual is a user-level job.

Other wear parts

The hopper, bin, and internal drivetrain parts are all sold separately. Before assuming a failure, check Baratza's support pages — the company is unusually committed to repairability.

The official manual is linked in the Manuals tab of the Encore page.
